India at the 2018 Commonwealth Games So Far

A total of 218 Indian Athletes are representing India that will participate at the Games. 71 teams are participating in this international multi-sports event and India has already bagged 19 medals in just six days and currently placed 3rd in the medal tally. The medals include 10 Gold, 4 Silver and 5 Bronze.

India at the 2018 Commonwealth Games So Far

This April kicked off with the 21st edition of the Commonwealth Games, the 2018 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXI Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Gold Coast 2018, is an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth that is currently being held in the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, between 4 and 15 April 2018. It is the fifth time Australia has hosted the Commonwealth Games. 



 A total of 218 Indian Athletes are representing India that will participate at the Games. 71 teams are participating in this international multi-sports event and India has already bagged 19 medals in just six days and currently placed 3rd in the medal tally. The medals include 10 Gold, 4 Silver and 5 Bronze. 



 Here are the highlights of the winners- 

GOLD MEDAL WINNERS 

India added its first medal to the tally when weightlifter Mirabai Chanu grabbed the top spot in the women's 48kg category on the opening day of Common Wealth Games 2018. 



The second gold medal for India came after weightlifter Sanjita Chanu won the top spot in the women's 53kg category. The 24-year-old set a new record in the game by lifting a total of 192 kg which includes 84 kgs in snatch and 108 kgs in clean and jerk. 

Weightlifter Satish Kumar Sivalingam brought India's third gold in the men's 77kg category. Sivalingam lifted a total of 317 kgs (144 kg in snatch and 173 kg in clean and jerk). 

The fourth gold medal for India was grabbed by the weightlifter Venkat Rahul Ragala in the men's 85kg category on day three. The 21-year-old from Andhra Pradesh finished with a total of 338 kg (151kg in snatch and 187 kg in the clean and jerk). 


Weightlifter Punam Yadav won the fifth gold for the nation in the women's 69kg category at the CWG 2018. She became the third woman in the event to snatch gold for the Indian side. 

In 10m women's air pistol, India's 16-year-old Manu Bhaker brought the gold medal tally of India to six on day four. Bhaker fired a total of 240.9 to claim gold. 

Jitu Rai won gold for India in the 10m men's air pistol event. Jitu Rai broke the Commonwealth Games record with a score of 235.1 

Indian women tennis team staged a winning show on Day 4 of the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games as they defeated defending champions Singapore 3-1 to claim gold. India took the lead with the help of Manika Batra's 11-8, 8-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-7 victory over World No. 4 Tianwei Feng. It was the first time that the Indian women table tennis team won the Commonwealth gold. 



India swept the table tennis team events of the Commonwealth Games as the men matched the women to seal a memorable gold with an emphatic 3-0 win over Nigeria in the final. 

Indian mixed badminton team claimed its maiden Commonwealth Games gold medal, thrashing three-time defending champions Malaysia in the final. 

SILVER MEDAL WINNERS 

P Gururaja knocked off silver medal tally of India at CWG 2018 in the men's 56kg category. After lifting the weight of 111 kg in the snatch, Gururaja added 138kg in his third attempt and end with a total lift of 249 kg. 

Heena Sidhu gave India its second silver medal in 10m women's air pistol on day four. Sidhu bagged silver with a total effort of 234 


Pradeep Singh of India brought silver to the nation in the men's 105 category weightlifting 

Mehuli Ghosh of India won silver for the country in the 10m women's air rifle. 

BRONZE MEDAL WINNERS 

18-year-old Deepak Lather from Haryana won a first bronze medal in the men's 69kg category and became the youngest Indian weightlifter to grab a CWG medal. 

India's Ravi Kumar won a bronze medal in the 10m men's air rifle event. Kumar fired a total of 224.1 to claim bronze. 



Apurvi Chandela won bronze in the 10m women's air rifle event. 

24-year-old Vikas Thakur won a bronze medal in men's 94kg category. Four years ago, Thakur won the silver medal in Men's 85kg weightlifting at CWG in Glasgow. Om Mitharval clinched the bronze in men's 10m air pistol on Monday.
